Materials Engineer

($80,000 - $90,000)
Responsible for the design, development, processing, and testing of materials used to create medical device products and hydrogels. The Materials Engineer is also responsible for managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, assessing supply needs, and coordinating delivery schedules
Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Review plans for new products and make recommendations for the selection of materials based on design objectives, such as process ability, strength, weight, cost, and storage space at the facilities
  • Ensure optimal material choices for design objectives to include quality, cost and appearance of product
  • Ensure that the procurement of materials optimizes volume discounts while aligning with available storage capacity, shelf life and the overall financial impact to the organization
  • Prepare budgets and proposals, write reports, analyze labor costs, and ensure all projects remain within budget
  • Conduct and design tests on raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications
  • Analyze product issues and failure data to better understand the causes of problems and come up with better and more innovative solutions
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics, Financial department to achieve organization goals and objectives
  • Support R&D and Engineering with process & test development, prototyping, design verification, SPC process optimization & validation (IQ, OQ, PQ), and failure modes effect analysis (FMEA)
  • Improve processes and products
  • Utilize company’s ERP system
Education and/or experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering or a related engineering field with three years of experience in materials engineering or a combination of education and experience
Language skills:
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret AMC policies, procedures, and regulations and must be able to write reports and effectively present information to company management as required
Physical requirements:
  • Constant use of hands and arms
  • Good vision, depth perception, hearing, and speech
  • Must be able to lift up to 25+ pounds (4 ft high, 10 times per day)
Other skills/abilities:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental chemistry and polymeric materials
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
